Comments pHippI think Background Services is never used because the essential of resource consumption is used for the system kernel whereas Application is giving more CPU priority and resources to application instead of Windows kernelbr br nbspbr It means the Application have a global response time that is better than if Background services where set If youve got some OS bottleneck I mean a leak of memory or IO perfs troubles then you can switch these value ppNot quite rightbr br This changes how the system behaves with the filebuffers All SAPbr installation need to be configured to use the background services forbr the following reasonbr br A database server MUST NOT use filesystem cache It should instead usebr direct IO to access the files If you dont switch that and you do ebr g backups that require high IO times the system will trash thebr buffers and will become almost unresponsive and will need a lot of timebr to get back to the usual performance I have seen systems that were verybr very very slow after backups if you have large memory and with that abr big filesystem cache it took the system 4 5 hours to get back tobr normal speedbr br Also the installation documentation clearly states to switch this tobr background processing youre good to do sop
